getting started

  1. 1add ily to your communityin the root desktop app, open community settings → bots → browse the bot store, find ilybot and install it. installing bots needs root on desktop.
  2. 2assign ily to your channelscommunity settings → bots → ilybot → channel assignment. ily can only see and reply in channels it's assigned to, so pick select all, and check again when you add new channels.
  3. 3give ily a role above the roles it hands outlike on discord, ily can only give or take roles ranked below its own. make a role for ily (it doesn't need any permissions), drag it above your reaction, self, colour and reward roles, and give it to ily.
  4. 4type ,helpeverything starts with , — try ,help for categories and ,help <command> for details. change the prefix with ,prefix.

how root ily is different

no embeds or buttons
replies are formatted text, games use typed moves (hit, stand, 1-9) and role menus use reactions
no dms
anything private (reminders, highlights, poker cards) arrives as a root notification instead
mute and slowmode
root has no timeout, so ily deletes a muted member's messages, and messages sent too fast in slowmode
voicemaster
root bots can't move people between voice channels, so ily makes your channel and sends you a link
channel names
root only allows lowercase letters, numbers and dashes, so ily tidies names for you (members: 5 becomes members-5)
